I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve written a big list of goals, only to look at it a few weeks later and feel defeated. You know the kind - colour-coded lists, notebooks with fresh optimism, sometimes even sticky notes plastered around the house. And then… life happens. Suddenly that journaling practice you promised yourself fades after three days. The new workout schedule? Collecting dust.
For years, I thought I was just bad at sticking to plans. But I’ve come to realise maybe the problem wasn’t my lack of self-discipline, but the timing. That’s where the idea of reading my horoscope by month came in, not that the universe will magically fix my problems, but more like having a monthly rhythm check.
Other times, just feeding myself feels like an achievement. Instead of forcing the same level of ambition year-round, I’ve started using monthly astrology as a guide to align my goals with the mood of the month.
Why Do Goals Always Feel Like a Chore?
I’ll give you an example. When I first started setting goals, I would do it in January - New Year’s resolutions, the big glorious lists of what I’ll achieve this year. But come March, that energy had fizzled out. The goals I wrote started feeling more like chores than exciting aims.
Now, when I check my horoscope monthly, I allow myself to reset instead. Maybe the stars are hinting it’s a good month for self-care.
Working With the Flow, Not Against It
When a horoscope says, There might be turbulence in your career this month, I don’t chuck my laptop out the window and run away to the bush. I just take it as a clue not to pile new stresses on myself.
Oddly enough, this way of syncing goals with my horoscope has made me far more productive than trying to plough through at the same pace every single month, regardless of energy levels.
(If you’re curious, the horoscopes I use most often are here: Absolute Soul Secrets horoscopes. They cover each sign monthly, and the themes often make me pause and go, Yep, that checks out.)
A Tangent About Burnout
I once made the mistake of trying to push through every month as if my motivation was endless. I kept telling myself, push harder, do more, hustle. By the time June rolled around one year, I was flat. Proper burnt out - no energy, no spark, just dragging my feet through every day. Of course, my goal list didn’t care; it glared at me from my notebook like a disappointed teacher.
That same month, I read my monthly horoscope which practically shouted at me: Focus on rest, reset your energy, and don’t overcommit. I had a moment of thinking, gee, if only I’d listened to that earlier. Instead of beating myself up, I deliberately stripped my goals back that month. Instead of exercising five times a week, landing two clients, decluttering the whole house - I cut it back to take a daily walk and finish one work project.
It felt weird at first, scaling my list down rather than up. But you know what? I ended the month refreshed instead of drowning. That’s when it really sank in - syncing goals with monthly astrology isn’t about superstition, it’s about balance.
How I Actually Do It (Simple Steps)
- Read my monthly horoscope. I don’t just skim - I write down the two or three main themes, e.g. focus on communication, career opportunities, or take care of health.
- Match goals to those themes. If it’s a career month, my goals lean towards projects and networking. If it’s about relationships, I’ll plan date nights, friend catch-ups, or family time.
- Size my goals appropriately. It's important because if you bite off more than you can chew, you'll set yourself up for failure. So I find small gradual bite size goals work best.
Do the Stars Control Things?
Here’s the part people always ask me: Do you really believe the stars control what happens? My answer: not exactly.
I don’t think my job interview went well because Jupiter was smiling in my chart. But I also don’t think it’s useless. Humans are wired for stories and patterns, and horoscopes give us stories to frame our goals within.
It doesn’t matter if it’s cosmic energy or just psychology, if it moves me towards being more thoughtful and intentional, it works. Sometimes we need permission to slow down. Or encouragement to speed up. My monthly horoscope gives me both and that is enough for me and quite frankly... anyone!
A Quick Example from My Life
Last May, my horoscope by month said it would be a time of creativity and self-expression. It wasn’t that the stars handed me creativity from above, it’s that the horoscope reminded me to make space for it. Without that little prompt, I probably would’ve just scrolled through Netflix all month.
Wrapping It Up
What it does mean is you’ve got a tool to pause, reflect, and set goals in tune with how life feels, rather than battling yourself into the ground.
Each month, you’ve got a little compass pointing out possible themes - connection, growth, rest, challenges or new opportunities. Then it’s your choice how to translate that into goals. To me, that choice feels empowering.
If planning has felt heavy or rigid in your life, have a look at your own monthly horoscope. Pull out a theme, shape some flexible goals around it, and see how it feels. At worst, you’ve spent five minutes reflecting. At best? You’re working with life’s tides instead of pushing against them. And trust me - when you learn to adjust your sails, the ride feels a whole lot smoother.
